Come Dance With Us!

THERE'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Our
Mission

Our mission is to instill a great love of dance, while inspiring self-confidence, discipline and respect of the performing arts. Our goal is to give each individual dancer the tools they need to take dance as far as they dream to take it. We believe if you can dream it you can achieve it!

The creative process is not controlled by a switch you can simply turn on or off; it's with you all

the time. - Alvin Ailey

BIO

My interest in Theatre and Dance dates to grade school, where I put on my first pair of ballet shoes. I remember being 6 years old, taking my first dance class at Fem Fatale dance studio, and even assisting in dance choreography for West Side Story in middle school. As a young child did not fully understand how to control and express my emotions, dance became an outlet for me to be free. The first day I walked into dance class, I fell in love with dance almost immediately. The feeling of being able to move and express myself without the use of words was something much more than I could have imagined. My purpose and passion lie within dance, and I know that this is something that I am called to do. I have chosen this path in grad school because I want to be able to share this energy and happiness with my students by encouraging them to discover their full potential as dancers and use proactive awareness through their bodies to unleash their creative freedom and let go of what words cannot express.

Throughout my educational and professional career, I have had the chance to teach dance at various dance studios and high schools . As a trained dancer with over 20 years of dance experience, I have been able to leverage the knowledge that I have gained to lead and teach young students the art and joy of the craft. I have choreographed several award-winning pieces and improved the technique and execution of over 100 dancers. I believe that teaching dance is an art form that occurs on the same scope as choreography and performance. The more I study the art of teaching, the more I understand that my position is more specifically defined as someone who paves the way for others.

BIO

My name is Rashaun Massey-Johnson. I’m currently studying to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance at Wayne State University, also with an exercise and sports science minor. And plan to get my Masters in Teaching Artistry in Dance. Another fun fact about me is I’m an Alumni of the dance company.

With my studies, I find myself being rooted within

contemporary movements, and wanting to dig deep into those stories. In the future I plan to travel and explore movements in other parts of the world, but eventually come back to Metro Detroit and finish teaching dance. My goal is to teach movements and bring emotions into pieces, while creating memories. Glad to be apart of this family for another season.
